World Food Day Seminar and Exhibition at the College of Science

The symposium was attended by Dr. Mishari bin Marzouq Al-Asimi, Vice President for Educational Affairs, deans of colleges and supporting deanships, and a number of faculty members and students. The accompanying exhibition displayed various food products prepared by female students of the university, in addition to awareness corners. Dr. Hind Abdul-Moneim Al-Basheer, Associate Professor in the Department of Food Sciences, addressed the increase in the number of food factories around the Kingdom to about 1,300 factories. The Kingdom's food market is expected to continue to grow in all sectors in the coming years to reach 214 billion Saudi riyals by 2030, after the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the largest and fastest growing market in the food and beverage sectors in the Middle East. Mr. Moaz Al-Zahrani also presented that there are 6 cases that determine whether food is adulterated: if it contains a food additive that is permitted and not permitted to be used according to technical regulations, if any of its components are removed or any change is made to them or they are reconstituted unless this is declared on its information card, and if a substance is added that would reduce the percentage of nutritional value.
